Los Angeles: British stuntwoman Olivia Jackson has been hospitalised following an accident on the set of "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" in South Africa.
She has been in an induced coma since Saturday, September 5, suffering from head injuries and a punctured lung, reported Ace Showbiz.
Jackson was filming a chase scene when the tragedy happened. She rode a motorcycle at high speed and suddenly crashed into a piece of metal camera arm. Unfortunately, she wasn't equipped with any protective gear or helmet during filming.
A source close to the production said, "It wasn't a very dangerous stunt. She was riding a motorbike in a straight line but due to the scene she had no protective gear or helmet. There is a metal arm which carries the camera along. But it malfunctioned and didn't lift up.
"It was totally out of her control. She had no chance. She is a lovely lady, the most generous person you could ever meet."
Her husband, David R Grant, rushed from filming in Malta to be at his wife's side. He then posted a photo of himself and Jackson on Facebook while also telling people that she had "been making steady progress."
Her mother-in-law, Janet Lyons, said, "It's been traumatic. We're waiting for Livvy to come out of theatre."
Jackson has been working as a stuntwoman since 2011. She was a stunt double for Charlize Theron and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in "Mad Max: Fury Road". She was also Karen Gillan's double in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and Gwyneth Paltrow's in "Mortdecai".
Jackson recently completed stunt performance in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
