Mumbai: On the seventh day of the auspicious Navratri, the Kaalratri form of Durga is worshipped by her devotees. She is the most ferocious form of Parvati. Her very form, invokes fear in the minds of the evil.

Maa Parvati removed her outer skin to transform into Kaalratri to annihilate demons Shumbha and Nishumbha. But despite being the most brutal form of Parvati, Kaalratri is extremely compassionate about her devotees. Her anger and wrath are only meant for the evil. Hence, for her devotees, she is also Shubhankari or one who is auspicious or one who does good deeds.

She is mounted in a donkey and is depicted with four hands.

She is governed by Saturn (Shani) and rules the night.

Here’s a simple Mantra dedicated to Maa Kaalratri:

ॐ देवी कालरात्र्यै नमः॥

Om Devi Kalaratryay Namah॥

Here's the Kaalratri Stuti:

या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु माँ कालरात्रि रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Ma Kalaratri Rupena Samsthita।

Namastasyay Namastasyay Namastasyay Namo Namah॥
