Navratri 2016: Worship Devi Katyayani today for strength and marital bliss

Mumbai: On the sixth day of the auspicious festival of Navratri, Devi Katyayani is worshipped by her devotees to seek strength and courage.

Goddess Katyayani is believed to be one of the most ferocious forms of Maa Durga. She was born to Sage Katyayana in the Katya lineage and was hence named Katyayani.

This form of Goddess Durga annihilated demon Mahishasura. And hence she represents the power that destroys evil. Since she destroyed Mahishasura, she is also referred to as Mahishasuramardini.

Goddess Katyayani is also worshipped by unmarried women or girls of marriageable age to get a husband of their liking.

She is mounted on a lion and is generally depicted with four hands.

You may chant this simple mantra dedicated to Maa Katyayani:

ॐ देवी कात्यायन्यै नमः॥

Om Devi Katyayanyay Namah॥

Katyayani Stuti:

या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु माँ कात्यायनी रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Ma Katyayani Rupena Samsthita।

Namastasyay Namastasyay Namastasyay Namo Namah॥
