Narendra Modi’s demonetisation masterstroke: Things you must and mustn’t do while standing in queue outside bank

Mumbai: Today being a holiday, banks across the country will reopen tomorrow to help millions of people who have been waiting for their turn to get their demonetised currencies exchanged with legal tenders. The nation has witnessed serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs ever since Prime Minister announced his crusade against black money and corruption last week.

And as the nation joins the PM in his bold yet noble initiative to uproot corruption and fight black money, here’s taking a look at things you must and mustn’t do while queuing up outside banks/ATMs.

Dos:

• Wait for your turn patiently. Your turn WILL come. Remember, your hard earned-money won’t go waste. Only those with unaccounted money will have to worry.
• Educate people in the queue about the rules. Tell them not to worry and inform them about the long-term positive effects of demonetisation.
• Carry a bottle of water and food to eat as you may have to wait for a few hours. Also help people around you with water and food if they are needy.
• Have faith in the government and the PM. The demonetisation plan may cause temporary trouble but will play a vital role in the eradication of black money. Tell people around you about the positive impact of this plan.
• Help people who can’t read/write by filling up the forms meant for exchanging and depositing money.

Don'ts:

• Do not panic. Wait for your turn and do not break the line. Most banks are issuing tokens for the convenience of customers. So do not worry.
• Do not mislead people. Do not monger fear. People with hard-earned legitimate money need not worry.
• Do not behave rudely with bank staff. Remember, they are working round-the-clock to help you solve cash crisis.
• Do not spread rumours or false news about new currencies. The RBI and the government will make announcements as and when necessary.
• The PM had clearly said that his demonetisation plan will cause temporary trouble but will benefit people at large in the long-run. So do not accuse the government of not giving you a notice. The demonetisation plan had to be kept secret to trap black-money hoarders.

People have time till December 30 to get their old demonetised currencies exchanged. So kindly cooperate with the government and help the nation fight corruption.
