AAP leadership behaved like mohalla cricket team: Bhagwant Mann to Arvind Kejriwal after MCD poll drubbing

AAP leadership behaved like mohalla cricket team: Bhagwant Mann to Arvind Kejriwal after MCD poll drubbing

New Delhi: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sweeping the Delhi municipal polls on Wednesday, opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) blamed the electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the polls for its debacle.

The ripple effect of the AAP's defeat in Delhi in MCD polls was felt in Punjab where the knives were out, with party MP Bhagwant Mann assailing the party leadership for the loss in the Assembly Election.

Mann alleged that the AAP leadership was behaving like a "mohalla (neighbourhood) cricket team" and said there was no use of finding fault with the EVMs.

The AAP's defeat comes more than two years after the Delhi Assembly Elections when it had humbled the BJP, winning 67 of the 70 Delhi Assembly seats.

"Without rigging, such a massive win is not possible," AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters on Wednesday.

He said it was "unbelievable" that the BJP could return to power in the civic bodies with such a massive win even as the MCDs had in the last 10 years failed to ensure the upkeep of the city.

The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations, with Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, saying that the AAP failed to understand the "mood of the nation".

Riding on the 'Modi wave', the BJP won 181 of the 270 wards that went to the polls to storm to power in the three municipal corporations for the third term in a row. The AAP with just 48 wards came a distant second with the Congress ending up third, bagging just 30 seats.
