A day after meeting Rahul, Kamal Haasan reaches out to Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI: A day after meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his residence in the national capital, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday met the latter's mother and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Informed sources said that the meeting between Kamal Haasan and the UPA chairperson was a "courtesy call". Haasan reportedly met Sonia Gandhi at her residence here.
During his meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, the iconic Tamil cinema veteran had discussed the present political situation in Tamil Nadu.
Kamal met the Gandhi scion at his 12, Tuglak Lane residence in Delhi. There meeting lasted for about half an hour.
While speaking to reporters later, the actor-politician said, ''It was a formal courtesy meeting. We spoke about Tamil Nadu politics."
Haasan is the founder of political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam.
The veteran actor-politician later took to Twitter and confirmed his meeting with Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul also took to Twitter and replied saying, ''Enjoyed meeting @ikamalhaasan in Delhi today. We discussed a wide range of issues concerning our two parties, including the political situation in Tamil Nadu.''
Kamal Haasan had earlier congratulated Rahul Gandhi after the latter took over the reins of the Congress party as its chief last year.
The iconic actor-filmmaker had then said that he was sure that Rahul Gandhi would work and deserve the admiration like his elders.
"Congratulations Mr Rahul G. Your seat does not define you but you can define your position. I have admired your elders. I am sure you would work and deserve my admiration too. All the strength to your shoulders," Kamal Haasan wrote in his congratulatory message.
Earlier, on his birthday in November last year, Kamal had announced the launch of a new app, which marked a step towards his political debut.
Kamal Haasan is known for films like "Hey Ram" and "Vishwaroopam" later floated a new political outfit with an aim to serve people of his state.
Haasan had also recently backed AAP convenor and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had staged a sit-in protest at Delhi L-G Anil Baijal's residence, demanding that he direct striking IAS officers to call off their protest.
