New Delhi: Kiwi umpire Chris Gaffaney got the commentators and fellow on-field umpire burst into laughter today in the ongoing 3rd Test between India and Australia at Ranchi.

The incident unfolded as Josh Hazlewood ran in to bowl to Cheteshwar Pujara. It was a well directed bouncer as the Indian batsman produced an uncharacteristic hook shot and failed to connect as the ball went into the hands of the wicket keeper.

Aussies subsequently produced half a shout and umpire Gaffaney started to raise his his finger, and then went on to scratch his head. (IND vs AUS, Ranchi Test, Day 4 - Live Blog | Full Coverage)

He was either too bored of the way things were proceeding and wanted to have some fun or withdrew looking at the feeble appeal from the Aussies.

Here's a look at the funny incident:-

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra shared a video of the incident through his Twitter account:-

Earlier, on Day 3, Cheteshwar Pujara was involved in a 102-run second-wicket stand with overnight partner Murali Vijay (82). He held the innings together with his 11th Test century, hitting 17 boundaries, in an otherwise sedate knock, to keep India`s hopes alive of surpassing Australia`s first innings total of 451.

In the morning session the same day, Vijay hit a gutsy 82 before undoing his hard work by being stumped off O`Keefe at the stroke of lunch.

The series between the world`s top two sides is very well poised at 1-1 with India needing at least a draw to have any chance of winning back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
