One of the reasons why Chetan Sharma had to go was his revelations on Kohli, and Hardik Pandya. They are two big stars in Indian cricket team. Pandya, in fact, is T20I captain. A lack of trust has been developed now among the Indian team leadership group after Chetan said in the video that Kohli lied to the media about Ganguly not backing him and Hardik was lying on his sofa while discussing his future. Because of these many reasons, Chetan's resignation was inevitable.

Chetan Sharma was in Kolkata watching the Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 final between Bengal and Saurashtra along with other selectors - Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath and SS Das, said a report in Cricbuzz. However, Chetan was missing when Day 2 action began at Eden Gardens. He had sent his resignation from Kolkata itself which was accepted by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

According to sources in the BCCI, former India opener and Odisha batter Shiv Sundar Das is likely to replace Chetan Sharma as the chairman of selectors. It is believed that the former chief selector's words on the Zee News Channel sting video created a 'trust deficit' among the cricketers.

A BCCI official has said that Chetan Sharma's resignation was inevetiable as his position has become 'untenable' after the Zee News Channel's sting video. "Yes, Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn't asked to resign," a BCCI official told PTI.
