India vs England 3rd ODI: As it happened

England defeat India by 8 wickets in third and final One Day International to win their eight successive bilateral ODI series bringing an end to India’s nine-series streak. This is also India’s first series loss under skipper Virat Kohli.

The much talked about Indian wrist spinner failed to trouble the English batsmen at Headingley as both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav went wicketless in their quota of 10 overs. Joe Root (100*) and captain Eoin Morgan (88*) cruised through the Indian bowlers with a stunning partnership of 186 runs between them.

The Indian skipper and the team management will have plenty to consider on their the ineffective middle-order and need to figure out the best possible combination with 2019 World Cup in mind. ​

# England win as Joe Root fires a full-toss over mid-wicket to bring up his second century in a row. 

# England need 21 runs from 60 balls with both Morgan and Root batting at 84. It has been a bad day for India in both the batting and bowling departments. England 236/2 after 40 overs. 

# Chahal successfully troubled both the batsmen and nearly got Joe Root stumped but the TV umpire ruled the decision in Root's favour as replays showed Chahal overstepping the line. England 211-2 after 35 overs. 

# Eoin Morgan and Joe Root continue to dominate the Indian bowlers. The wicket has turned flat and has hardly offered any help to the bowlers in the second-innings. England need 76 to win after 30 overs.

The fast-bowlers seem ineffective so far and are being punished by the English batsmen, who are dealing only in boundaries. The current run-rate is 8-runs per over. England 43/1 after 5 overs.

# Eoin Morgan wins the toss and opts to bowl first 

Captain Virat Kohli would also hope to sort India’s middle-order and death overs woes that lay bare in the second ODI which the visitors lost by 86 runs at Lord’s. Bowling in the death overs has always been a concern for India and the second ODI was no different.

The visitors also find themselves in a similar situation in the batting department as the middle-order failed to make meaningful contributions in the English tour so far. India’s victories so far relied heavily on the performance of two batsmen, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. 

England, on the other hand, will be happy with their batting exploits in the second ODI and Joe Root’s return to form in the second ODI. The hosts will look to bag the bragging rights ahead of the five-match Test series starting from August 1.
