New Delhi: It was a plain simple message, at least from Australia captain Steve Smith. But a two letter word spelt disaster for the visitors in Bengaluru, as a miscommunication between two Aussies helped India to a series-leveling win.
Aussies were on course to achieve the target in the second Test with skipper himself anchoring the innings. But a DRS misunderstanding between Smith and Shaun Marsh heralded a batting collapse, like the ones we had witnessed during Indian innings in Pune.
Chasing a target of 188, Aussies needed Smith to hang on there, and play waiting game — as the match was only in its fourth day — with other batsmen playing around him.
And it seemed they have just found a stand good enough to last, or least carry them towards the finishing line, with Marsh.
They were well placed at 67/2.
Then, the unthinkable happened. Marsh was wrongly given LBW off the bowling of Umesh Yadav by Nigel Llong. Marsh, as expected, wanted to review, but needed a talk with his skipper on the other end.
They spent some time together, then Marsh walked to the surprise of everyone.
Later, it was revealed that Smith asked Marsh to 'go' for the review, but the latter thought it was an order to walk.
"We weren't entirely sure. I sort of said 'go'. As in 'go, have a look at it.
"He sort of turned around and started walking, so I should have probably put my hands up and done it," Smith said after the match.
It was followed by a collapse, with Australia folding up for 112.
