The ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 will get underway at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies on Friday (March 4). The tournament will witness 8 teams battling against each other for the title.

The teams who are part of ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 are India, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, England and West Indies Women. The venue of the ICC Women’s World Cup is in New Zealand. Bay Oval (Mount Maunganui), University Oval (Dunedin), Seddon Park (Hamilton), Basin Reserve (Wellington), Eden Park (Auckland), and Hagley Oval (Christchurch) are the venues that will host the matches.

Format of the World Cup

Like the men's 2019 World Cup, each team will play every other team once, with the top four making the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, the top-placed team will play the side that finishes fourth, while the second- and third-placed sides will contest the other semi-final. However, if India finish in the top four, they will play the second semi-final, which will be a day-night match in Christchurch.

England are the defending champions of the tournament. They defeated India in the previous edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017. The Women’s World Cup 2022 was originally scheduled to take place last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mithali Raj-led Indian team will play their opening game against Pakistan Women on Sunday (March 6) at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
