ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Match 5 — AUS vs BAN: Rain halts play at The Oval

New Delhi: Live cricket score and live updates from match 5 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 between Australia and Bangladesh. Steve Smith's men would want to register their first win after a washed out opening tie against New Zealand. (AUS vs BAN: SCORECARD)

AUSTRALIA INNINGS | TARGET: 183

The rain has stopped but the covers are still on. It might take some time for the game to get underway as the outfield is quite wet right now.

There is still a plenty of time left in the game. Over 2 hours to go before the cut out time.

Over 16 | Score 83/1| David Warner 40(44b); Steve Smith 22(25b)

Rain interruption: The covers are on and the play has been stopped.

Over 14 | Score 80/1 | David Warner 38(39b); Steve Smith 21(18b)

David Warner and Steve Smith are taking it slow after Aaron Finch's fall.

Although Bangladesh bowlers have not given away too many runs, they have failed to take wickets.

The threat of rain is still looming over The Oval.

Over 9 | Score 54/1 | David Warner 24(20b); Steve Smith 9(7b)

50 up for Australia. It has been a slow start for them.

WICKET! 7.5 over: Aaron Finch lbw b Rubel Hossain 19(27)

Bowling change worked for Bangladesh. The quickest man in the team Rubel Hossain struck in his first over.

Aaron Finch decided to stay in the crease and the ball would have hit his middle and leg stumps.

Skipper Steve Smith walked in at number 3.

Aaron Finch's bat has a sensor fitted in its handle. After drone cameras, slow-motion replays and glowing stumps, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced 'bat sensors' as the sport's latest innovation in the ongoing Champions Trophy in England.

Designed by technology giant Intel, these sensors will feed previously unseen precise details about a player's bat speed and angle of back lift.

Bat Sensors: Here's everything you need to know about ICC's newly-introduced technology

Over 4 | Score 21/0 | David Warner 9(9b); Aaron Finch 11(15b)

So far a good start for Australia. Both the openers are taking their time to settle in before they can play freely.

Mashrafe Mortaza has been impressive with his disciplined line and length so far.

Bangladesh's fielding however, has been sloppy from the onset.

Australia openers Aaron Finch and David Warner are at the crease. Warner is on strike. Mustafizur Rahman will open the attack for Bangladesh.

Over 44.3 | Score 182 all out

Mitchell  Starc was spitting fire at The Oval. The 43rd over of Bangladesh's innings was a triple-wicket maiden from the speedster, who missed his hat-trick just by a whisker.

Tamim Iqbal fell five runs short of his first ODI hundred against Australia. It was an unfortunate end to a really brave innings.

WICKET! 42.1 overs: Tamim Iqbal c Josh Hazlewood b Mitchell Starc 95 (114b)

WICKET! 42.3 over: Mashrafe Mortaza b Mitchell Starc 0 (2b)

WICKET! 42.4 over: Rubel Hossain b Mitchell Starc 0 (1b)

WICKET! 44.3 over: Mehedi Hasan Miraz b Starc 14 (26b)

Bangladesh's lower batting-order could not stand Starc's swinging yorkers and fell like ninepins.

Mitchell Starc who was wicket-less in his first spell ended the innings with figures of 4 for 29 in 8.3 overs.

Over 40 | Score 171/6 | Tamim Iqbal 91(109b); Mehedi Hasan 9(11b)

WICKET! 36.6 overs: Mahmudullah b Adam Zampa 8 (11b)

Mehedi Hasan comes in at 8.

Tamim Iqbal is closing in on his century.

10 overs remain in Bangladesh's innings.

Over 36 | Score 150/5 | Tamim Iqbal 80(99b); Mahmudullah 7(8b)

150 up for Bangladesh but they still have a long way to go to post a respectable target.

WICKET! 34.2 over: Sabbir Rahman c Steve Smith b Adam Zampa 8 (14b)

Rahman played a cover drive and found the Australian skipper at extra cover.

Steve Smith brought in leg-spinner Adam Zampa and the bowler struck on his second delivery.

SIX! 35.4 over: Glenn Maxwell to Mahmudullah

Right from the middle of his bat, Mahmudullah sent a good length delivery out of the park.

An interesting observation: So far, all Bangladesh batsmen got out on the 2nd deliveries of the overs, except Shakib Al Hasan.

Over 30 | Score 124/4 | Tamim Iqbal 68(84b); Sabbir Rahman 2(1b)

Travis Head came out to bowl the 30th over and it turned out to be the most eventful over of Bangladesh's innings.

Tamim Iqbal took on the bowler and hit him for consecutive sixes on the 1st and 2nd balls of the over.

Suddenly, things started to look bright for Bangladesh but on the fifth delivery Head avenged the beating by Tamim by trapping his teammate Shakib Al Hasan in front of the wickets.

Bangladesh lost a review as well.

WICKET! 29.5 over: Shakib Al Hasan lbw b Travis Head 29 (48b)

Over 27 | Score 102/3 | Tamim Iqbal 51(75b); Shakib Al Hasan 26(40b)

100 up for Bangladesh as Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan complete their 50-run partnership.

These two will have to bat deep for Bangladesh to post a competitive target for Australia.

FIFTY! 23.3 over: 37th ODI fifty for Tamim Iqbal. Third score of 50+ in a row.

Over 23 | Score 88/3 | Tamim Iqbal 49(68b); Shakib Al Hasan 14(23b)

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan are now well-settled and would like to play some big shots from here on.

DROPPED! 21.6 over: Mitchell Starc to Shakib Al Hasan.

Glenn Maxwell dropped an absolute rocket that came his way at the backward point from Shakib's bat. First fumble by Australia in the field today.

SIX! 22.2 over: First six of the match. Tamim Iqbal stepped down the crease and played a brilliant stroke over the extra cover.

Tamim also hit two fours after the six as Moises Henriques' over went for 16 runs, most expensive of the innings so far.

Over 18 | Score 59/3 | Tamim Iqbal 29(53b); Shakib Al Hasan 5(8b)

Tamim Iqbal has been holding the fort for Bangladesh and batsmen on the other end are being dismissed.

WICKET! 16.2: Mushfiqur Rahim lbw b Moises Henriques 9 (20b)

Big blow for Bangladesh. An angling delivery from Moises Henriques trapped Mushfiqur Rahim in front of the stumps. That was absolutely plumb.

Over 16 | Score 53/2 | Tamim Iqbal 28(51b); l Mushfiqur Rahim 9(18b)

Travis Head and Moises Henriques brought into the attack by Steve Smith.

50 up for Bangladesh after 15 overs but they had to toil hard against the Australian bowling attack.

On top of their bowling, brilliant Australian fielding  has contributed equally in restricting Bangladesh batsmen.

Over 12 | Score 43/2 | Tamim Iqbal 25(39b); l Mushfiqur Rahim 3(6b)

Mushfiqur Rahim replaced Imrul Kayes at the crease.

Full credit to Australian bowlers for restricting Bangladesh batsmen right from the beginning of the innings.

WICKET! 10.2 over: Imrul Kayes c Aaron Finch b Pat Cummins 6 (16b)

Soft dismissal. Imrul Kayes got beaten by the pace and gave a simple catch to Aaron Finch at cover point.

Over 7 | Score 29/1 | Tamim Iqbal 20 (26b); l Imrul Kayes 2 (5b)

Imrul Kayes came to the crease to replace Soumya Sarkar.

After striking early, Australia bring Pat Cummins into the attack.

Tamim Iqbal struck a few deliveries really hard but the placements could have been better as he found fielders in the deep on every occasion.

WICKET! 5.2 over: Soumya Sarkar c Mattew Wade b Josh Hazlewood 3 (11b)

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade dived on his left and caught the ball as it raced towards him after getting a thick edge of Soumya Sarkar's bat.

Over 4 | Score 14/0 | Tamim Iqbal 7(15b); Soumya Sarkar 3 (9b)

Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc managed to keep Bangladesh batsmen under check for most deliveries of the first four overs.

FOUR! 3.3over: Clearly frustrated Tamim Iqbal raced down the pitch and smashed Josh Hazlewood's delivery past Soumya Sarkar for a four.

PREVIEW

Two-time winners Australia will aim to give a better account of both their batting and bowling when they take on Bangladesh in the must-win second Champions Trophy encounter to be played at the Kennington Oval here on Monday.

Both teams will head into their penultimate group game of the eight-team marquee event knowing that a defeat will knock them out of the competition.

Neither of the two teams started strongly in the tournament. While Bangladesh slumped to an eight-wicket defeat against hosts England in the tournament opener, Australia`s first match against New Zealand was largely affected by rain before it was eventually abandoned, and both the Trans-Tasman rivals earned a point each.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, need four points from their remaining two games.

Here are some facts about the two sides:

Australia have won 18 of their previous 19 ODIs against Bangladesh, a five-wicket defeat in Cardiff in 2005 the only blemish in this run.

The only previous Champions Trophy encounter between these sides came in Colombo in 2002, Australia winning that one by nine wickets having bowled out Bangladesh for 129.

Australia won six consecutive ODIs at The Oval between 1999 and 2010 but have subsequently lost their most recent two games there.

Bangladesh have played at the Kennington venue just twice, losing both of those fixtures against England.

Australia have claimed victories in seven of their last 10 outings (L3); two of those defeats coming in their last two matches however.

This game will be Australia`s 900th ODI match; their record stands at 554 wins, 303 defeats, nine ties and 33 no results so far.

David Warner (currently 92 innings) is 36 runs away from reaching 4,000 in ODI cricket; only two men will have ever got their quicker, provided he picks up those runs in this match (Amla & Richards, Kohli reached it in 93).

Josh Hazlewood (Australia) comes into this game having just become only the second bowler ever to take six wickets (6/52 v New Zealand) in a Champions Trophy innings (MF Maharoof, 6/14 v West Indies, 2006).

Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan are both set to equal Mohammad Ashraful`s Bangladesh record of 175 ODI appearances in this match.

Here is all you need to know about today's tie:

The two squads are as follows:

Australia: Steve Smith (captain), David Warner, Aaron Smith, Pat Cummins, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wicketkeeper), Adam Zampa.

Bangladesh: Mashrafe Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicketkeeper), Tamim Iqbal Mohammad Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Imrul Kayes, Mehedi Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain, Sunzamul Islam and Shafiul Islam.
