Gautam Gambhir reveals plan to impress selectors for India's upcoming Test series with England

New Delhi: The recently concluded Test series between India and New Zealand marked the comeback of one of India's finest openers Gautam Gambhir after major controversy regarding his selection ahead of the 3-match series.

Gambhir, who was overlooked by the selectors in the initial 15-man squad, eventually got into the playing XI after openers KL Rahul (1st Test) and Sikhar Dhawan (2nd Test) were injured.

Gambhir, who score 50 in 2nd innings against New Zealand in the 3rd Test in Indore thanked fan with an emotional message for the support he got.

Now that the Test series against the Kiwis has been concluded and Gambhir isn't a part of India's ODI squad, the question arises will he be feature again as India take on England in a 5-match Test series in November?

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Gambhir said, "England is going to be a very good series. They are going to come hard at you. Five Tests are a very long time. Teams can make a comeback unlike when you play a three-Test series where if you start well, the other team has very little time to recover."

"You got to be really strong mentally. You have to weather the storm, see off spells. They have a quality attack. People like James Anderson, Stuart Broad have played in India and have done reasonably well. Selection is not in my hands. I have two Ranji games now and will try and score runs and win matches," he added.

The Delhi-born opener, who earned his place after splendid performance in Duleep Trophy will need to be at his absolute best in the Ranji Trophy again if the option of featuring in the series against England has to be kept open.

Gautam Gambhir scored a total of 25 runs in his four innings during India's tour to England in 2014 after he was brought in as a back-up opener behind Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan.
