Astonished yet elated, Hardik Pandya calls Test call-up biggest moment of his career

New Delhi: Soon after Hardik Pandya was called-up in the ODI squad to face New Zealand, he has impressed literally every one with some scintillating performances not just with the bat but with the ball too.

Since impressing in his ODI debut against New Zealand, Pandya is being compared with the legendary Kapil Dev with many believing that the talented player can end India's long wait of finding a pacer-batsman.

Surprisingly, the 23-year-old was given his ODI cap by Kapil Dev too. Hence the huge expectations were expected.

In an interview with TOI, Pandya unfolded some stories of his school days.

When asked about his education, he joked, "I've done my PhD in ninth."

"Yes, PhD in ninth. After the ninth class, I dropped out of school. That's my education," he said.

Pandya further added, "I could give many reasons for it but basically I wasn't good at studies and finances at home weren't so good. But I'm sure you wouldn't be able to make it out if I didn't tell you about it."

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Hardik reflected on the prospect of representing India in the traditional format.

He said, "Honestly, being called for the Tests is more pleasing and happier moment."

"I have been in the scheme of things as far as ODIs are concerned for a while, but to get a call for Test cricket is the main thing. It tests your temperament, fitness, work ethics, mental strength."

The Surat born cricketer also spoke about his experience during the 55-day tour with India A to Australia and how Rahul Dravid helped him shape his personality.

"We were talking about what is a natural game," Pandya revealed. "He [Dravid] said that there is no such thing called a natural game. It is just that in cricket you play according to the situation, and you win the games."

Though surprising, Pandya's inclusion in India' 15-man squad for the first two Tests against England was questioned by many. It is probably time for him to silence his critics just like he did in the ODI's and cement his place in the Indian whites.
