New Delhi: In a weird incident, a Bangladeshi bowler conceded 92 runs off just 4 balls in a match in Bangladesh.
In a match marred with controversies in the Dhaka Second Division Cricket League between Axiom and Lalmatia, the team batting second reached a score of 0/92 in less than one over.
Batting first, Lalmatia were bowled out for just 88 after 14 overs. But the batsmen complained about several umpiring howlers. In fact, it all started at the toss.
“It started at the toss. My captain was not allowed to see the coin and we were sent to bat first and as expected, the umpires’ decisions came against us,” Lalmatia general secretary Adnan Dipon told the Dhaka Tribune.
As a unique way to protest against the umpiring errors, Lalmatia’s opening bowler Sujon Mahmud bowled a barrage of extras. The bowler conceded 65 wides and 15 no balls. The batsmen scored 12 runs off his four legal deliveries.
Dipon further confirmed that Sujon's horrible figures were a mark of protest to the umpiring blunders.
“My players are young, aged around 17, 18 and 19. They could not tolerate the injustice and thus reacted by giving away 92 runs in four deliveries,” Dipon said.
This is now a new record as 92 runs off six balls has now overshadowed the most runs ever conceded in six balls in a first-class match. The record was previously held by New Zealand cricketer Bert Vance who conceded 77 runs in one 22-ball over playing for Wellington against Canterbury.
