Raipur: A 55-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her son on the suspicion that she practised `black magic' in Raipur on Wednesday, police said.

Rohit Dhruv (27) was arrested for the murder of his mother Sumitra Dhruv at their house in Tatibandh area, said Amanaka station house officer D P Sharma.

"The accused believed that his mother practised black magic which led to the death of his two brothers in March and now it was going to be his turn," the police officer said.

Rohit "dreamt" that his mother was trying to kill him, and seeing her in front of him after waking up in the wee hours today he hit her with an iron pan, the SHO said.

He then set her on fire after pouring kerosene, leading to her death on the spot, the officer said.

Police arrested him after locals alerted them about some suspicious activity inside the house.

The partially burnt body of the woman was sent for autopsy, the SHO said. A case of murder under section 302 of IPC has been registered.
