Raipur: In a proud moment for the people of Naxal-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, Namrata Jain on Wednesday secured 99th rank in the coveted Union Public Service Commission Examination (UPSC 2016 result).

Notably, Dantewada district comes under the Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, considered as the den of the Naxals.

“I have witnessed the woes of Naxalism. I want to assist in its eradication,” Eenadu India cited Namrata as saying.

She added that she wants to assure the affected population that the government is with them. “I want to do development work in Naxal-affected areas,” the alumnus of KPS Bhilai School said.

Namrata got an engineering degree from the Bhilai Institute of Technology. According to The Times of India, it was Namrata's second shot at the UPSC exam.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said in a tweet: “Elated to learn Namrata Jain from Dantewada clinched 99th rank in UPSC exams! Maybe someday she'll become the district's collector.”

Nandini KR, an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), has topped the prestigious Civil services examination.

A total of 1,099 candidates (846 men and 253 women), including 500 in General category, 347 belonging to Other Backward Class, 163 from Scheduled Caste and 89 from Scheduled Tribe, have been recommended for appointment to various central government services, the UPSC said.

The civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC annually in three stages-- preliminary, main and interview-- to select candidates for the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
