India, Slovenia amend DTAA to bring info exchange under ambit

New Delhi: India and Slovenia have signed a protocol to amend the bilateral double taxation avoidance agreement, broadening the pact to include exchange of information to curb tax evasion.

The two countries signed the protocol amending the existing convention and protocol for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income on May 17 in Ljubljana.

"The protocol will broaden the scope of the existing framework of exchange of tax-related information which will help curb tax evasion and tax avoidance between the two countries and will also enable mutual assistance in collection of taxes," the Central Board of Direct Taxes said in a statement.

The protocol was signed by Sarvajit Chakravarti, Ambassador of India to Slovenia, and Dusan Mramor, the Slovenian Minister of Finance.
