Delhi: Canadian porn star Sunny Leone’s desi ‘Laila’ avatar has kept viewers glued to the internet ever since the item number was released. However, all is not hunky-dory when it comes to the way the song has been received by the Censor Board. Reason? The lyrics of the song.
The song from Sanjay Gupta’s real-life gangster drama ‘Shootout At Wadala’ had the recurring refrain ‘Laila teri le legi’. The words which are laced with double entendres, have faced the ire of the Censor Board and have been altered to ‘Laila teri loot legi’ to suit the ears of the TV audience. Sunny Leone’s raunchy ‘Laila’ has been able to conjure up a veritable storm as far as far as viewers are concerned, and the CBFC did not want any provocative lyrics to escape their scissors. The alteration in the lyrics of the song came about as the makers wanted to comply with the demands of the Censor Board. A source revealed to a website, “The Censor Board felt that it had to be changed to make it more appropriate for the TV audience. The makers had to re-dub the line and the new version will now be shown on television.” The song ‘Laila’ is Sunny Leone’s debut item number in Hindi cinema. In the song, Leone is seen seducing John Abraham and Tusshar Kapoor. The adult actress, who entered mainstream Hindi films with Pooja Bhatt’s ‘Jism 2’, was first seen in the fifth season of TV show ‘Bigg Boss’.
