Mumbai: When National Award winning actor Dhanush was penning `Kolaveri Di`, little did he imagine that the song would turn out to be a national sensation. Even Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is finding it difficult to recover from the `Kolaveri Di` fever.
Apparently, Dhanush was in Mumbai to attend the premiere of Tom Cruise`s `Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol`. And the young actor made the most of his Mumbai trip by visiting Big B’s house.
Bachchan went ga-ga over Dhanush on Twitter and said, “Dhanush ! Of `Why this Kolaveri Di` fame and star in his own right, visits the house to meet up. Simplicity in his demeanor !(sic)”
And Dhanush was quick enough to respond. He tweeted, “@SrBachchan it was a pleasure and honour meeting you sir. I`m glad I received your blessings. Thank you ji (sic)."
The song that is being called the latest youth anthem has inspired many to come up with their own versions. Playback singer Sonu Nigam’s four year old son Nevaan too has sung a `milk` version of the song and many others have followed suit.
Talking to reporters, Dhanush said, “When we were recording the song, we never thought it would become such a rage. We didn’t have any plans or marketing strategies to make the song a hit. It just happened. My voice is full of mistakes and that’s why it suits the song.”
The song garnered tremendous fan following but also reaped sharp criticism from Bollywood’s veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Akhtar had slammed the meaningless lyrics of the song through his tweet that read, “Kolaveri-D. Every one is praising the robes but the emperor is naked. Tune ordinary, singing substandard, words an insult to sensibility (sic).”
`Kolaveri Di` might have average sound score, mediocre singing and senseless lyrics according to the legendary lyricist. But what one can’t take away from the song is that it translates “heartbreaks” in the funniest possible way.
And there is where Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander have been able to strike a chord with the listeners.
“Heartbreak is very common and happens all the time. We wanted to try a new concept with Tamil and English lyrics. Surprisingly, it worked,” said Ravichander.
