Snapdeal ships 6 million orders in Diwali sales

The online marketplace, which kicked off its sale earlier this month much like its rivals Flipkart and Amazon, said 70 percent of the orders came from its mobile website and app.

New Delhi: E-commerce major Snapdeal Monday said it has shipped six million orders as part of its Diwali sales till now.

The online marketplace, which kicked off its sale earlier this month much like its rivals Flipkart and Amazon, said 70 percent of the orders came from its mobile website and app.

"We have had a phenomenal response. We have shipped six million orders during this Diwali sale so far. 98.6 percent of the deliveries during Diwali sale were on time and 98.9 percent orders were dispatched within 24 hours of order placement," Snapdeal Vice President (Category Management) Rahul Taneja said.

The company saw 17-fold growth in sales, 10-times growth in orders and 5-fold increase in users during the first sale on October 12 that focussed on electronics, he added.

"We saw 5 million downloads of our app on the first day of the Diwali sale. About 70 percent of the orders came from our mobile website and app," Taneja said.

He added that the company will continue with more such sales in the next few weeks as the festive season progresses.

With the onset of the festive season, e-commerce websites are offering huge discounts across categories to customers as they try to woo shoppers with best deals and grab market share.

Flipkart and Amazon ran their sales between October 13 and 17.

A significant chunk of annual sales for e-commerce firms come during the third quarter of the fiscal, which coincides with the festive season in the country.

These companies have also made huge investments in logistics to ensure speedy delivery.

Flipkart, as part of its 'Big Billion Days' offer, said it sold 10 lakh products within 10 hours of the first day of the sale. On Day 3, it claimed it had sold half a million mobile phones in 10 hours.

Amazon, on the other hand, has brought in next-morning delivery for late-night orders as well as the chance to win a kg of gold every day for five days. It claimed that all top deals are getting sold out in less than 30 minutes of going live.
