US creates weaker-than-expected 151,000 jobs in August

US job creation slowed in August, the economy adding 151,000 new positions, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department.

The total was below the average for the prior three months of 190,000 and also below analyst forecasts of 180,000. But the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.9 percent.
