Washington: Rapper Plies has been sued for 10 million dollars for his involvement in a 2006 nightclub shooting.
Five people were injured during the rapper’s performance in Gainesville, Florida, after a fight between the 35-year-old rap star’s entourage and audience members broke out and gunshots were fired into the crowd.
Plies, whose real name is Algernod Washington, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a concealed weapon, which was found after the shooting incident, and he was sentenced to probation.
His brother, Ronell Levatte, served three years in prison for his part in the incident.
The five injured men filed a suit against the hip-hop star in 2010, claiming the rapper benefited from the incident as he used references to the shooting in his music, but the judge dismissed the men’s lawsuit in July 2010.
According to Allhiphop.com, the plaintiffs have now filed another lawsuit, and are seeking 10 million dollars in damages.
“The plaintiffs’ claims against my client continue to be without merit,” Contactmusic quoted the rapper’s attorney, Robert A. Rush as saying.
“We look forward to having this resolved in a court of justice,” he added.
