Abba’s `Gold` named best-selling CD in UK history

London: Abba’s greatest hits album has been named as the best-selling CD of all time in the UK. The Swedish foursome’s ‘Gold – Greatest Hits’ has shifted more than 4 million copies, making it No1 on the list marking 30 years of the compact disc, the Mirror reported. The compilation, starring disco legends Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Anni-Frid, was released 10 years after the group split in 1982. Adele comes in second with her 2001 album ‘21’ selling half a million less than Abba, while Oasis are third with 1995 masterpiece ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ Other stars whose albums make the list include Amy Winehouse (Back To Black), The Beatles (1) and Take That (Beautiful World). Speaking about today’s CD birthday celebrations, Geoff Taylor of music industry body BPI, said: “The CD was a great leap forward in sound technology.” “Music fans embraced its durability, quality, and instant track access,” he said.
