Nagpur: `Baromas`, a Hindi film based on the award-wining Sahitya Akademi novel by the same name, has been selected for the DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) to be held from March 6-10 in Washington, DC.
It is the only Indian movie to have been selected and will be competing in the Feature Films category against movies from USA, Switzerland, UK and Canada, a release issued here by the film`s producer Pallippuram Sajith said.
`Baromas` has received admiration from DCIFF for its well thought out screenplay and eminent performances by the film`s cast, including renowned actors like Benjanim Gilani and Seema Biswas.
"It is a moment of great pride for us to represent India at an international level," Sajith said.
"It reinstates our policy to create meaningful cinema through an appreciation of great writings from Indian literature and make it accessible to a wider audience," he said.
`Baromas`, the novel, is written by Dr Sadanand Deshmukh who lives in Vidarbha, surrounded by the stories of farmers, their miseries and rare joys.
The film has been directed by Dhiraj Meshram, an FTII graduate.
`Baromas` will be screened at the US Navy Heritage Centre on March 10, the final day of the festival.
Meshram will attend the festival and also answer post-screening questions.
Launched in 1999 to nurture independent films, 2013 will be the 15th anniversary for DCIFF.
Before this, `Baromas` was selected at the South Asian International Film Festival in New York.
The film, shot at Khartalegao village in Maharashtra`s Amravati district of Vidarbha region, is to be commercially released in India in April, the release added.
