New Delhi: Ace designer Tarun Tahiliani, who is offering a range of high-end bridal outfits at the fourth edition of his Couture Exposition here, says there`s no definite trend for wedding wear. He believes brides and grooms must make their individual fashion statements.
"I don`t think bridal wear is all about trends. It`s about making your own cult. Bridal or super high-end evening wear is all about being eclectic and bringing your own look together," Tahiliani told IANS as he kickstarted his four-day annual event here Wednesday.
"Women are still making polarised choices when it comes to couture, but clearly they must be true to who they really are," he added.
The designer flagged off his exhibition - Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exhibition - at the plush DLF Emporio mall and displayed over 60 pieces from his latest couture collection.
Set against a cutting edge glass backdrop titled `Jewel Box`, Tahiliani says the idea behind the theme was to pay an ode to Indian craftsmanship.
"In India, fine workmanship finds itself in the hands of the artisans who have contributed so much to the Indian design industry. I believe it is their intricate workmanship that contributes much to the Indian couture.
"I have tried to fuse western and Indian techniques in my collection with the use of fine material - be it weaves, jewels or Swarovski elements," said Tahiliani.
From key-hole jackets and lehangas in classic colours like deep red and gold, tulle saris, shararas in bright tones to anarkalis in citrus colours, the veteran designer offered everything that a bride could ask for.
For the men, the designer had sherwanis with maroon-coloured zardozi borders in velvet, paired with digitally printed sequinned stole.
He says the collection, with a starting price tag of Rs.200,000, is specially for Indian and women from the Arab region.
