New Delhi: A request on social networking site Twitter drew prompt response from Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and helped a patient in getting his tickets in Dibrugarh Rajdhani confirmed for tarvel from Jalpaiguri to here.
Ramesh Kumar was to come to Trauma Centre at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) for urgent medical assistance but did not have a confirmed ticket in Dibrugrah Rajdhani, a Railway official said.
An NGO, Uday Foundation, then approached Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu through Twitter and sought his help for urgent journey arrangements for Kumar.
"Please help, this patient need urgent medical treatment in Delhi," NGO tweeted, giving the ticket number and contact details of Kumar and tagged it with the twitter accounts of the Minister and the Railway Ministry on February 3.
After noticing the message on the website, Prabhu directed the concerned authorities for making necessary arrangement for travel of the patient.
"His ticket was confirmed and he boarded the train at Jalpaiguri station yesterday. He was provided with the wheel chair and extended all kind of help all along the journey to New Delhi," said a senior Northern Railway official.
This morning, the train arrived at New Delhi station where Northern Railway officials arranged a battery operated vehicle and also a wheel chair to drop him upto the ambulance.
