Mumbai: Maharashtra Police officer Vishwas Nangare-Patil, known for busting rave parties, has found a friend and ally in actor Ronit Roy who has decided to model his character in ‘Shootout At Wadala’ on him.
Ronit, who won numerous laurels for playing the bullying father in ‘Udaaan’ with conviction, is now set to play an agile policeman in Sanjay Gupta`s film. Interestingly, though Ronit plays real-life shoot-out specialist Raja Tambat, he has instead decided to model his character on Nangare-Patil.
Says Ronit: "After researching on Raja Tambat, I found that his body-language and spoken language didn`t fit into my interpretation of the character. So I`ve decided to model my part of Raja Tambat on another cop that I know - Vishwas Nangre-Patil. Vishwasji and I are on the same wavelength."
In the underworld drama, most of Ronit`s police scenes would be with Anil Kapoor, who plays another real-life policeman in the film.
"I know Anil from the time I used stay in Subhash Ghai saab`s place. Anil bhaiyya was a regular visitor there, and a major source of inspiration. I`d frequently dream of working with him one day. And now I am! I am now waiting for a decent time to interact with Anil bhaiyya over my role."
‘Shootout at Wadala’ travels from 1978 to 1981 and narrates the story of Mumbai police`s first registered shootout in which gangster Manya Surve was gunned down in 1982. The star cast also includes John Abraham, Tusshar Kapoor and Sonu Sood.
