London: British band ‘Coldplay’ has been named the country’s highest-selling rock act of the last 12 months.
According to statistics released by The Official Charts Company, the band’s chart-topping track ‘Paradise’ was the most popular guitar anthem of 2011 and their album, Mylo Xyloto, sold more copies than any other rock act, the Daily Express reported.
Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher was placed at the second place in the album rundown with his debut solo offering Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, ahead of Florence & The Machine’s Ceremonials and Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light at three and four respectively.
The Mumford & Sons’ hit album Sigh No More rounded off the first five.
Coldplay boasted two songs in the top five rock singles of 2011, with ‘Paradise’ at number one and ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’ at four.
