Mumbai: She is yet to set the Box Office registers ringing, but actress Sonam Kapoor says whatever she has achieved in Bollywood till now is due to her father Anil Kapoor, because of whom people value her.
Sonam made her acting debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s `Saawariya` opposite newcomer Ranbir Kapoor, which bombed at the box office. Her subsequent films --`Delhi 6`, `Aisha` `Thank You` and `Mausam` too failed to click with audience.
"I am here because of my father. I am not one of those star-kids who say you don`t know how hard I have worked and that it has nothing to do with my father. My work has everything to do with my father. People treat me with respect because I am Anil Kapoor`s daughter," Sonam, who tasted her first commercial success with `I Hate Luv Storys` told reporters. The actress has been in the industry for four years now and she is yet to carve a name for herself, while her father Anil Kapoor is still going strong not only in Bollywood but also rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stalwarts. Ask her if she wants to disassociate herself from her father`s success, Sonam says, "No, I am proud of him. It is unfair to my father`s hard work to say it has nothing to do with me." "He has been in the industry for 30 years and he has worked for his children and if we don`t bear the fruits of his hard work then who will," she asked. "On the other hand, my father always says that there are lots of star kids who have come and gone, and if you have stayed on and are among the top 10, then the credit goes to me too," she said. Ask her how she reacts to reports that she bagged a certain film because of her father, and she says, "I am sure every star-kid must be doing the same. I am sure the directors are smart and there are a lot reasons that they want to take me. They have seen my dad`s work and they expect the same work ethics from me." Sonam would be seen next in Abbas-Mustan`s action-thriller `Players`, a remake of Hollywood film, `The Italian Job`. The film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Bobby Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Omi Vaidya releases on January 6. PTI
