Mumbai: There is a new war ensuing in the fraternity. The perpetrator here is Prateik Babbar whose latest statement has ruffled quite some feathers in the industry.
The Babbar kid has apparently blamed noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the failure of his last comedy ‘My Friend Pinto’ – a film that was produced by Bhansali. Prateik said, “Bhansali did not have time for the film and he never even came on the sets.” This clearly has miffed Bhansali, sparking off a debate among the people of B-town. “I don’t think a producer needs to be on the sets 24x7. Moreover, there might be ego clashes. But when it comes to promotions, the producer should take the reigns as he has put in his money and knows the best way to recover it,” said filmmaker Kumar Taurani. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “I know so many producers including Karan Johar who never go to the sets of their films as they trust their directors. Even if ‘My Friend Pinto’ was promoted well, it would have tanked as the script was not strong.” Prateik, however has found some support from Pooja Bhatt, who said, “If a producer can make time to be on the sets of the film, then he should be.” Filmmaker Pritish Nandy added, “Rangita (his wife) and I work as a team and one of us is always there on the set.” After ‘Dhobi Ghat’, where Prateik was critically acclaimed for his performance, the actors’ film career has failed to take off. Even as experts have a favorable opinion about Prateik, it remains to be seen if he can carry a film all by himself.
