London: If an online campaign has its way, the world-famous Barbie doll may soon get a new makeover -- it may go bald in support of children affected with cancer.
The "hair-free" doll is the idea of two American women who want to create awareness for children with the disease, The Sun reported.
Rebecca Sypin and Jane Bingham have launched a Facebook page -- "Beautiful and Bald Barbie! Let`s see if we can get it made."
The online movement that has asked toy makers Mattel to create the new bald doll now has over 83,000 fans.
Rebecca Sypin`s 12-year-old daughter Kin Inich lost her hair after getting chemotherapy to treat leukaemia.
Sypin from California said the children she met during treatment often had a bad time with the disease. "Most take the hair loss harder than the diagnosis," she said.
Bingham from New Jersey also lost her hair after being treated for lymphoma.
She said it had a major emotional toll on her nine-year-old daughter. "She would mimic me and would wrap scarves on her head too."
Mattel has not commented publicly on the doll proposal. The women said they wrote to the company but it replied that it did not accept ideas from outside sources.
