Mumbai: Southern actress Reema Sen is "amazed" at viewers’ response to her role of sensuous Durga, Manoj Bajpayee`s second wife in `Gangs of Wasseypur`, and thanks Vidya Balan for making curves trendy.
"I never thought that people will be so ga ga over the character. People have found a cotton sari and a quarter second back shot so sexy - I am amazed," Reema told IANS.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, crime thriller ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’has strong women characters portrayed by Reeam, Richa Chaddha and Huma Qureshi.
"Anurag had told me that people were going to go crazy over my character but I never expected this," added the actress attributing her success to Vidya.
"Had it not come after `The Dirty Picture`, people would have said I looked fat. She (Vidya) has made voluptuous look sexy and I really need to thank her," she said.
Describing size zero concept as an "obnoxious trend", she doesn`t think skinny bodies make one look sexy.
"Everyone is so crazy over the size zero concept. I don`t think fat is sexy but being skinny is not that great either. It`s like their bodies are all the same and without seeing the face you don`t know who it is. This is an obnoxious trend where people are anorexic and they try to look sexy, she said.
After doing a few Hindi films, Reema is very particular about the roles which she does in Bollywood.
"As long as I don`t get something nice, I am not ready to do it. After `Malamaal Weekly` also it took me sometime to sign my next film. Since I have the luxury of doing southern films, I don`t feel I am sitting at home doing nothing," she said.
She feels for good roles she is dependent upon a director`s vision.
"I always feel that an actor is very helpless when it comes to roles. You are totally dependent on the director. Anurag came up with something so different. Nobody has seen me like this before. I need a good director to come and give me a good role, I cannot create roles for myself," she said.
The actress says she is a "commercial person" and that after `Gangs..` "people called me up and offered me women-centric films but I refused".
"At the end of the day, it is entertainment which is the most important factor. If you can entertain and tell a story or pass on a message, then it is great."
