PVR slaps criminal charges against Rajkumar Santoshi

Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has been found guilty in a cheque-bouncing case. The director, who gave such hits as ‘Ghayal’, ‘Damini’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and ‘Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani’, had given a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to PVR against the advance for film-making, which did not get cleared due to insufficient funds.

New Delhi: Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has been found guilty in a cheque-bouncing case. The director, who gave such hits as ‘Ghayal’, ‘Damini’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and ‘Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani’, had given a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to PVR against the advance for film-making, which did not get cleared due to insufficient funds.
As per the case, it was agreed and settled between Rajkumar Santoshi and PVR Pictures Ltd. that Rajkumar Santoshi will pay to PVR an amount of Rs. 1, 11, 00,000/- (Rupees One Crore Eleven Lacs Only). Out of the said amount, Rajkumar issued cheque of Rs. 50 lakhs. On the due date, the same cheque was presented by PVR to its banker and the said cheque was returned with remarks ‘Insufficient Funds’. The PVR lawyers sent a legal notice to Rajkumar Santoshi demanding the aforesaid payment but Mr. Santoshi failed to make the payment on the due date. PVR has filed a criminal case against Mr. Santoshi before the Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi. The Court has issued the summons to Rajkumar Santoshi to appear on September 7, 2012.
