Vidya Balan terms ‘The Dirty Picture’ as a landmark in her film career
Vidya Balan is overwhelmed with the kind of response she got from the moviegoers.
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has said she is literally on cloud nine, courtesy the success of her recently released movie ‘The Dirty Picture’.
She said this while sharing her views with the mediapersons in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Accompanied by Ekta Kapoor, the co-producer of the movie, Vidya candidly admitted that she rates this new movie as a milestone in her career on the tinsel screen.
The elated actress said though many of earlier films were box office hits, ‘The Dirty Picture’ is the closest to her heart since its success in the very first week has infused a rejuvenated spirit in her.
“I am just very very happy that I have got the kind of films and specially ‘Dirty Picture’, which for me is a huge landmark. Yes I have received critical commercial success earlier also and I am very thankful for that but this is something different. ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a landmark in many ways and I think not just for me and that is why I feel very very humbled,” said Vidya Balan.
The film opened to packed houses in the first week itself, making it a straight hit.
The movie generated curiosity due to it being a biographical movie on the life of south Indian film actress Silk Smitha who ruled the 1970s era of Tamil and Telugu film industry.
Vidya Balan felt elated and with a chuckle said she was overwhelmed with the kind of response she got from the moviegoers and the film fraternity.
“Response has been very encouraging from directors, from actors, from entire fraternity, from media. I am feeling very good. As I have also said earlier that ‘Dirty Picture’ had been a very humbling, encouraging and gratifying experience,” added Vidya.
The story of the film is based on the life of Vijayalaxmi, who entertained the people at large with her performances in various movies.
However the controversial actress, who was considered a sex symbol, died under mysterious circumstances as it was reported she had committed suicide.
The film is directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
