Honda recalls 1.9 lakh cars in India to rectify faulty airbags
Japanese auto major Honda is recalling 1,90,578 units of the previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz models in India as part of its global exercise to rectify faulty airbags made by Takata.
New Delhi: Japanese auto major Honda is recalling 1,90,578 units of the previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz models in India as part of its global exercise to rectify faulty airbags made by Takata.
The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned arm Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), announced that it will voluntarily replace Takata passenger front airbag inflators in these models, which are manufactured between 2003 and 2011.
"The replacement will be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner. While the campaign for CR-V and Civic will begin immediately, the replacement of inflators for other affected models would begin from September 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly," HCIL said in a statement.
According to the company, the recall will affect 22,483 units of the premium sedan Accord manufactured betwen 2003-2011.
As many as 1,37,270 units of the company's best selling sedan City manufactured between 2008-2011 will be covered, while 15,706 units of premium hatchback Jazz produced between 2009-2011 are also affected.
HCIL further said 13,605 units of the now discontinued sedan Civic manufactured between 2007-2011 are also affected by the exercise.
The recall will also impact 1,514 units of SUV CR-V produced between 2009-2011, it added.
Millions of vehicles have been recalled across the globe due to defective safety airbag manufactured by Japan's Takata Corp. It has affected vehicles manufacturers across brands, including BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.
