Tiger Zinda Hai: After MNS, Shiv Sena expresses displeasure over screen share

Mumbai: After Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Udhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has expressed its displeasure over the screening of Yash Raj Films’ Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.

The Shiv Sena has raised concerns about the number of screens Marathi film Deva Ek Atrangee has been allotted in the prime time slot. The Marathi film in question releases on the same day as Tiger Zinda Ha i.e., December 22.

Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena reportedly said that such a move is nothing but arrogance. If Marathi films are not given screen space then it is violation of rules. The Chief Minister has to intervene. This is the land of Dadasaheb Phalke and Marathi films cannot be denied screens.

The Shiv Sena also reminded Yash Raj Films that ‘Tiger is still alive’ (referring to the tiger emblem on Shiv Sena party’s logo).

The MNS too had alleged that the aforementioned Marathi film wasn’t given screen space.

According to an ANI report, MNS leader Shalini Thackeray on Tuesday said, “Marathi films must be given prime time shows. 'Deva' wasn't given screen space against 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. If Hindi film industry takes screen space at expense of Marathi films, we'll oppose it. Haven't threatened anyone, want screen space for Deva.”

On Wednesday, Amey Khopkar film division head of the MNS said that they have sent a letter to to Yash Raj Films and asked them to give screen space to Deva. If their request is considered, then there wouldn’t be any reson to oppose Tiger Zinda Hai. But in case YRF refuses to consider their request, then they would allow the production company to shoot in Maharashtra in future.
