Mumbai: Reacting to reports of her recently released film "Dear Zindagi" been copied from a Canadian series, director Gauri Shinde says her movie is borrowed from real life.

Shah Rukh Khan-Alia Bhatt's "Dear Zindagi" has got an overwhelming response from the audience. But within days of its release on November 25, reports emerged that the movie is a replica of the Canadian comedy-drama TV series "Being Erica".

According to reports, the producers of the series, Temple Street Productions have sent a legal notice to Karan Johar's Dharma Productions for copyright infringement.

"'Dear Zindagi' is a deeply personal film. There is only one thing it borrows from, that's my life. There are millions of films and serials with therapists like there are with doctors. Just because there is a doctor in a film does not mean it borrows from another film with a doctor," Gauri said in a statement here.

She is disturbed by reports of plagiarism.

"I am deeply disturbed by irresponsible comments from people who have no clue what it is that they are referring to. I have not seen this series that they refer to. I cannot comment on what is in it," she said.

"In today's world where everybody sees everything, I am not so dumb that I believe I can get away by deliberate plagiarism nor am I so insensitive to borrow without giving credit from anybody who has created anything for such a sensitive and important cause," she added.

Reportedly, "Being Erica" tells the story of Erica who couldn't handle relationships in her life and cheated on her dream boyfriend Ethan. Then there was Dr Tom, the therapist who used unconventional ways of helping Erica cope with her problems.

Meanwhile, sources in Dharma Productions denied getting any legal notice.
