The magnum opus based on one of the most awe-inspiring chapters in Indian history, has been in news since its inception. The sets of the film were vandalised on a couple of occasions by a group that believed that the filmmaker was distorting history.
But the makers of the film clarified that they intended to narrate history as it is and not deviate from it.
Deepika essays the role of Rani Padmini, wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (played by Shahid), the King of Chittor while Ranveer portrays Sultan Alauddin Khilji.
Padmavati will see Deepika and Shahid opposite each other as a couple on screen for the first time. Interestingly, Padmavati happens to be Shahid’s first with Bhansali.
The ace filmmaker has created magic on the silverscreen in the past. His films mirror his passion for storytelling in the most beautiful way. And he also believes in presenting his leading ladies in the most beautiful way.
Padmavati is Deepika and Ranveer’s fourth film together. Bhansali had brought them together for the first time in Goliyon Ki Raasleela- Ram Leela. In the film which was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo-Juliet, Ranveer and Deepika’s chemistry made a million hearts skip a beat. They set the silverscreen ablaze yet again in Bajirao Mastani. They had even shared screen space for a few seconds in Homi Adajania’s Finding Fanny, a film in which Ranveer made a cameo appearance. However, though the two are a part of Padmavati, they wouldn’t be sharing screen space.
Also starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Padmavati will hit the silverscreen on December 1.
