Padman vs Padmaavat: Twinkle Khanna worried about Box Office clash? Deets inside

Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat (earlier titled Padmavati) which was slated to hit theatres on December 1 last year will now release on January 25. But the film which is way behind its actual schedule will be clashing with Akshay Kumar starrer Padman at the Box Office.

In a way, a Box Office clash makes for an interesting number game but are the producers really happy about it?

Well, Twinkle Khanna, the debutante producer of Padman has something to say about the unfortunate clash.

During an interview with a leading daily, Twinkle said, “It’s not pleasant for both and will impact both. But they have also been through enough of their own hurdles. But I wish they would have come a week earlier or a week after us preferably. I am sure Mr Bhansali has made a wonderful movie but we are very confident of our content. So, I am not apprehensive, and we are not going to move or anything because we are very happy with what we have.”

For the unversed, Padman is inspired by Padma Shri awardee Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who was instrumental in making machines that could produce affordable sanitary napkins for women in rural India and also create awareness about menstrual hygiene.

Written and directed by R Balki of the Cheeni Kum and Paa fame, Padman will see Amitabh Bachchan making a special appearance. The film also stars Radhika Apte (as Akshay’s on screen wife) and Sonam Kapoor.

Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna, who is an interior-decorator/author, has turned a film producer with this venture. She had written about Muruganantham in a short story titled The Sanitary Man from A Scared Land in her second novel The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad.

During an interview with BBC, Twinkle while talking about menstruation and the taboo attached to it worldwide said that it took her a lot of time to convince Arunachalam to give her his consent for making the film. It was only after repeated requests, the man, who keeps low key, agreed to give his nod.
