Padmaavat overseas collections break Box Office record of 'Baahubali 2', 'Dangal'—Here's how

New Delhi: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama 'Padmaavat' hit the screens on January 25, 2018, amid massive protests nationwide demanding a boycott of the screening.

However, the film starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh braved all odds to finally see the light of the day.

The film opened a day before its nationwide release at some places. And now it seems, that the film's overseas collection in New Zealand, Australia and UK (Paid preview) has already beaten colossal hit Baahubali II: The Conclusion and Dangal respectively.

Noted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and shared the overseas figures.

According to BollywoodLife.com, Padmaavat opened with $367k while Baahubali 2 earned $212k and Aamir Khan's Dangal’s collections stood at $247k.

With overseas figures already riding high at the Box Office, Padmaavat has got a big thumbs up from the audience.

The film faced massive protests by fringe groups claiming that the filmmaker has distorted historical facts in the film. However, Bhansali time and again mentioned that none of these claims is true.

The film was initially scheduled to hit the screens on December 1, 2017.
