Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film Padmaavat starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji has proved to be a roaring success at the Box Office.

The film which was in the eye of storm since the very beginning released on January 25. Despite the fact that the film couldn’t hit theatres in a few states, the overall performance of Padmaavat has been quite impressive.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the latest Box Office collection fugures.

He tweeted:

“#Padmaavat continues to score... [Week 2] Fri 10 cr, Sat 16 cr, Sun 20 cr, Mon 7 cr, Tue 6 cr, Wed 5.50 cr. Total: ₹ 231 cr. India biz. (sic).”

Initially titled Padmavati, the film was scheduled for release on December 1 last year. But owing to nationwide protests by Rajput groups over its historical content, the makers decided to defer the film. Moreover, the Central Board of Film Certification too hadn’t issued the clearance certificate. It was only after seeking suggestions from a panel of experts that the Censor Board issued a screening certificate. It had also suggested a few modifications and the same were duly incorporated by the makers.

Inspired by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammed Jayasi’s Padmavat, the film has garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Padmaavat also stars Jim Sarbh as Malik Kafur, Raza Murad as Jalaluddin Khilji and Aditi Rao Hydari as Mehrunnisa.

The film hit theatres on January 25, a day when Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan was scheduled. But since Padmaavat was way behind its scheduled and had incurred losses, the makers requested PadMan producers to push the release of their film. Thus, Padmaavat had a solo release.

The film has had a great time at the Box Office so far and it would be interesting to see how well it scores tomorrow as PadMan is all set to make a splash on the silverscreen.
