Mumbai: Manisha Koirala, who is all set to essay the role of legendary actress Nargis in Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, reveals that she was initially apprehensive about accepting the offer.

During an interaction with Bollywoodlife.com, Manisha, who fought a long battle against ovarian cancer in 2012, revealed why she wasn't very sure about doing the film when it was offered to her.

"I was a little apprehensive because of the health factor. The health history of Nargis Dutt ji and mine. I wasn’t sure if I could be in that frame of mind, or in that space, to do justice. So I was a bit apprehensive initially. I came here to meet Raj sir (Rajkumar Hirani). When he narrated me the entire thing showed me the rushes… that’s when I agreed to do it," Bollywoodlife quoted Manisha as saying.

Manisha will be seen playing the role of Ranbir Kapoor's mother (Nargis) in the biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt. The film directed by Rajkumar Hirani will narrate the tumultuous episodes of Dutt's life ranging between his initial days in the film industry to his release from the Yerwada Jail.

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal plays Sunil Dutt, Sanju's father. It's a known fact that Sanju was very close to his father Sunil and we can see the same being depicted on screen.

On being asked about her role in the film, Koirala said, "This movie actually deals with the time when troubles started in his life. It was towards the last leg of Nargis Dutt ji’s life. I am there but it deals more with father-son, friends and things like that."

Manisha also expressed her desire to play Nargis in a biopic, if ever it is made.

Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film slated to release on June 29 also stars Sonam Kapoor, Karishma Tanna, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal and Jim Sarbh.
