Befikre movie review: Ranveer Singh, Vaani Kapoor starrer lacks Aditya Chopra's charm

It can also be said that Aditya Chopra has raised the bar so much that he, himself, failed to match up the standards of his own filmmaking. At the end, we would just like to say that 'Befikre' is a decent watch this weekend.

Befikre movie review: Ranveer Singh, Vaani Kapoor starrer lacks Aditya Chopra's charm

New Delhi: Old wine in a new bottle! Well, this pretty much sums up latest Bollywood release 'Befikre'. With this movie, filmmaker Aditya Chopra planned to take the silver screens by storm after almost eight years. But, is it a worthy enough comeback? Umm, we don’t think so. Let us tell you how.

The story revolves around 'Dilliwala' Dharam (Ranveer) who arrives in France to spill humour and wit all over by performing stand-up comedy at a friend's nightclub. In order to mingle up and pace up with the spirit of Paris, he goes chick hunting in random parties. This is where he bumps into Shyra Gill (Vaani) who is a carefree modern-day girl. And then, the drama unfolds.

The first half of 'Befikre' is high on adrenaline where two young strangers lock horns to complete uncanny and bizarre dares to impress each other. It packs solid music and powerful kissing scenes. The flick proved to be successful in flaunting the beauty of Paris in the best way possible.

Sadly, this wasn't exactly what the audience was expecting. Aditya Chopra, who earlier rocked the Box Office with 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' and 'Mohabbatein', this time didn’t pay much heed to the essence of his kind of cinema. Yes, you guess it right. Here, we are talking about emotions which 'Befikre' lacks in its soul.

The script struggled hard to bring free the no-strings-attached chemistry of youth. Apparently, that didn’t work well. In the second half, the scenario changes when a third person comes in between the duo. Obviously, we expected some clichés but 'Befikre' turned out to be too damn predictable.

If we talk about acting, Ranveer is the only saving grace in the film. His on-screen character will somewhat remind you of Bittoo Sharma from 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. He is funny, charming and cute. This is the reason why girls won't be disappointed after watching the movie. On the other hand, Vaani failed to match up to the expectations. Maybe because her role in the movie isn’t scripted well. She juggles between emotions and confuses audience with her intentions till the last scene.

Ace musicians Vishal-Shekhar have done a brilliant job in 'Befikre'. Their tunes take the story forward in an interesting way. Script and screenplay are loosely written. This turns out to be the major setback for the audience.

It can also be said that Aditya Chopra has raised the bar so much that he, himself, failed to match up the standards of his own filmmaking. At the end, we would just like to say that 'Befikre' is a decent watch this weekend. It will definitely attract young moviegoers, especially college students. It is hard to comment whether the family audience will step forward for this movie or not.
We are giving 2.5 stars to 'Befikre' because we believe that it is a satisfactory attempt to make you unleash the wild and daring side of your personality.
