Graft accused Tejashwi Yadav may step down to save Bihar's ruling alliance: Report

New Delhi: Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is accused of corruption, may step down as part of a compromise to save the state's ruling grand alliance, a media report said on Friday.

Citing RJD sources, the Hindustan Times reported that Lalu Prasad did not want the “grand alliance to disintegrate” and hence his party may accept its partner Janata Dal (United)’s demand for Tejashwi to quit.

The report claimed Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, whose party is one of the alliance partners, is “said to be brokering peace between the warring allies”.

The RJD decision may come after the presidential elections on Monday, the report said.

Tensions between JD(U) and RJD rose after last week's CBI raid on the premises of Lalu, Tejashwi and others in an alleged “land-for-hotels” scam.

The two sides have been exchanging barbs at each other following raids.

Sonia has reportedly urged both the leaders to keep the alliance intact.

The CM had earlier asked Tejashwi Yadav to come clean on the corruption charges.

The RJD has 80 legislators in the state assembly.

Referring to the charges, JD(U) spokesperson Ajay Alok said: "After an FIR is filed, one has to reply to the court and the public. Running the Mahagathbandhan is the responsibility of everyone."

Also JD-U state president Vashisht Narain Singh had said that his party was not satisfied with Tejashwi's reply to corruption allegations against him.
