Patna: In a shocking incident, senior IAS officer Mukesh Pandey allegedly committed suicide in the national capital on Thursday. 

He was posted as the District Magistrate in the Buxar district of Bihar. Pandey committed suicide at a railway station in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, ANI said. 

His body was recovered from the tracks of the railway station.

The twitter handler of IAS Association expressed condolence over the death of the IAS officer and tweeted, "Shocking news of sad & untimely demise of Mukesh Pandey, IAS, DM Buxar, Bihar. Deepest condolences and may the departed soul Rest in Peace."

According to another report, Pandey came to Delhi on Wednesday citing ill health of one of his relatives. He was staying at Leela Hotel at Delhi's Chanakyapuri.

A India Today report claims that the District Magistrate first tried to kill himself by jumping off a mall in Janakpuri area. However, Delhi Police reached on time and managed to foil his plan. Thereafter, the Pandey ran to Ghaziabad area and committed suicide by jumping in front of a train.

Delhi Police sources said that from the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that Pandey was reportedly facing dispute at home. 

The source further claimed that before committing suicide, he sent a message to a relative and mentioned about his intention to jump off a building in Janakpuri area in Delhi. He also spoke a suicide note he had left in his hotel room. 

The relative immediately approached the Delhi Police and asked them to intervene. By the time a team of Delhi Police reached the location, Pandey managed to escape and reached Ghaziabad area and jumped before a running train.

The police recovered the suicide note from the hotel, that read, "I am committing suicide in district centre area of Janakpuri, west Delhi near Hotel Piccadilly by jumping off the 10th floor of the building. I am fed up with my life. I don't believe in human existence anymore. I am sorry. I love you all! please forgive me!"

The top bureaucrat was a 2012 batch IAS officer and hailed from Bihar's Chhapra. He was recently appointed as the District Magistrate of Buxar.
