BHOPAL: A chargesheet has been filed against three inspectors and two sub-inspectors in connection with the Bhopal gang-rape case. A show cause notice has also been issued to the Bhopal Superintendent of Police.
A 19-year-old woman, a civil services aspirant and daughter of a police couple, was repeatedly raped by four men near the Habibganj Railway Station in Bhopal. The accused persons have been arrested.
"Based on the preliminary inquiry, a show cause notice was issued to the city Superintendent of Police. A chargesheet has been filed against three inspectors and two sub-inspectors after which a departmental inquiry will be initiated," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Makrand Deuskar said on Monday.
The two city police stations had kept haggling over jurisdiction of the matter, and delayed filing the FIR. The case was finally registered two days after the incident.
Two city doctors were also served notice after an erroneous report that said a gang-rape victim indulged in consensual sex with culprits.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) reported the specific role of each of the five cops who failed to register the FIR on time.
