Tata Tigor to be launched today
The official bookings began on March 20, 2017, at a refundable amount of Rs 5,000.
The wait is almost over as Tata Motors will launch the highly anticipated Tata Tigor in India on Wednesday. A couple of weeks back, the home-grown automaker organised a media event for the Tigor and shared almost all the details of the Tigor. Soon afterwards, we drove the Tata Tigor and you can read our first drive review here.
Let’s get a quick recap on what we have know about the Tigor so far. It is a sub-4 metre sedan which shares most of its underpinnings with the Tiago; a car which took the Indian automotive industry by surprise. However, unlike its bigger sibling, the Tata Zest, the Tigor will go easy on your pocket.
On to the features then. We know that the Tiago is already a very feature-rich car. But the Tigor manages to raise that benchmark even further. Like the Tiago, the Tigor gets the amazing Harman-engineered 8-speaker music powerhouse but comes mated to a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment display acts as the monitor for the reverse camera, supports video playback and voice command recognition, has GPS navigation via NaviMaps and SMS readout functionality. Other features include a double-barrel headlamp layout with smoked projector headlights, LED-powered taillights, LED stop-lamp strip placed above the rear windshield, dual 12V charging points and a rear armrest with integrated cupholders.
Powering the Tigor will be the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel engines that are offered with the Tiago. Both engines have a 3-cylinder configuration and where the petrol mill churns out 85PS/114Nm, the diesel-powered motor produces 70PS/140Nm. Transmission duties for both the engines will be handled by a five-speed manual transmission and power will be sent to the front wheels only.
We expect it to cost between Rs 4.5-6.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will face tough competition from Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo, Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Ford Figo Aspire and its bigger sibling, the Tata Zest.
