Renault registers 146% growth in 2016

French automaker Renault is one of the fastest growing automakers in India. Its market share has been constantly increasing and the sales figures prove this. In the month of December 2016, Renault sold 11,244 units of cars, which is 9.2 percent more as compared to the 10,292 units sold in November 2016. Renault overall sold 132,235 units of cars in CY 2016, registering an impressive growth of 146 percent as compared to the 53,847 unit sales in CY 2015.

The credit for this growth mainly goes to two cars in Renault's portfolio, the Kwid and the Duster. Thanks to its SUV-inspired looks, class-leading features and spacious boot at an affordable price tag, the Kwid has been selling like hot cakes since its launch in 2015. Moreover, the introduction of 1.0-litre and AMT variants of the Kwid in 2016 further increased its popularity. As far as the Duster is concerned, it is a spacious compact SUV and is the only car in its segment to offer four-wheel drive.

According to Renault’s Indian CEO Sumit Sawhney, India is a very important market and Renault will be introducing at least one new product every year, over the next 5 years, starting with some exciting product innovations this year. Currently, Renault has 4.5 percent market share and plans to expand its network throughout the country. Renault is likely to introduce its new SUV, the Captur, this year. It was showcased at the 2016 São Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil and is based on the Duster's platform. It may share the 1.5-litre diesel engine with the Duster, though reports suggest a 2.0-litre petrol might be offered as well.
