The compact sedan segment in India is getting increasingly competitive every year. Last year, while Volkswagen introduced the all-new Ameo, recently Tata launched the Tigor. Also, Maruti is likely to introduce the next-gen Swift DZire this year. However, before that happens, Hyundai is planning to launch the Xcent facelift on April 20. The South Korean automaker launched the Grand i10 facelift in February and the upcoming Xcent facelift is also expected to have similar changes as the new Grand i10. Let's have a look at the expected changes.

Exteriors

Similar to the Grand i10 facelift, the new Xcent is also expected to have a tweaked front bumper. It will feature a revised hexagonal grille and LED DRLs. When it comes to the rear, the current Xcent’s odd-looking boot has always been its hiccup. However, the upcoming Xcent is likely to have a restyled boot that would make it look more appealing. It is also expected to come with a new set of taillamps and new alloy wheels.

Interiors

The upcoming sedan is likely to carry the same two-tone interior layout and upholstery as the current Hyundai Xcent. However, the major change in the cabin would be the addition of the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Mirror Link, voice recognition and smartphone navigation. The infotainment system, instead of the rear-view mirror on the current Xcent, is also likely to act as the display for the rear parking camera.

Mechanicals

The most significant change is expected to be under the hood. The 1.1-litre diesel engine is likely to be replaced by the new 1.2-litre diesel engine that powers the Grand i10 facelift. The 1.2-litre engine produces 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque in the Grand i10, however, the engine is likely to be slightly tweaked to suit the Xcent facelift better.

The 82PS, 1.2-litre petrol engine will be carried forward from the current model without any change. Similar to the current Xcent, while the diesel version will only have a manual transmission, the Petrol versions will have both manual and automatic.

Price and Rivals

In spite of having cosmetic and mechanical changes, the price of the new Xcent will only be slightly revised as the compact sedan market is already very competitive. It will compete with the recently introduced Tata Tigor and other popular sedans in this segment like the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and Volkswagen Ameo.
